HMSA Extra Benefits
#11
Are you calling this number?

I’ve called every published number. I’ve called Medline the company that actually runs the program for HMSA. I’ve gone to the walk in facility in Hilo.  I have letters from them summarizing my conversations with the reps, grievance department (yes, it’s a thing) and their deep regrets for my inconvenience, and how they will get right on it.

Ha ha.

Anyway tonight I’m watching Hot Spot on Netflix.  My new favorite tv series.  It’s a comedy, but a slow burn, wait for it, patience…

Good call.  M2 please feel free, as far as I'm concerned anyway, to move the relevant parts of this exchange to the HMSA thread so that future generations of PWers can benefit from Edge's experience - given that Edge concurs.
I wish you all the best

@HOTPE: Rather than continue the movie thread hijack, I'm adding some more info here. The lady Frau Chunkster and I help rarely goes to CVS-Long's when we take her to town, so I called and asked her about it. She says that the HMSA debit card is far more likely to be balky there than at Walmart, so she only uses it at Long's if a needed item is not available at Walmart, which does happen. My own personal experience with the Keaau Long's is that it seems to be a 'B' location with inferior inventory and customer service. A single free item could easily pay for the additional gas to drive to Hilo, so I suggest you try Walmart.

As for your interaction with HMSA, all I can say is a sarcastic "Why am I not surprised?" Although a non-profit NGO, they operate on a typical Hawaii bureaucratic model designed to avoid accountability and real problem solving.

so I suggest you try Walmart.

Thanks Chunkster. I haven’t been to Walmart in years but it’s worth a try.
Update on the multiple calls and email HMSA promised to return, a week now and waiting… nothing.

It sounds like you have been more than generous with your time.  Now it may be time to go over their heads.  They answer to Medicare.gov.

go over their heads.

It’s on my list. I’m waiting for government employee turmoil to lessen. Otherwise what someone at Medicare starts may get lost when they’re let go. And I’m sure nobody will call me back about that.

"Or you can go into Long’s with their app that is designed to let you scan bar codes and tell you if the item is qualified or not. The app scanner has not worked for over a year. It’s the same error message saying something about the meat counter at Aldi’s."

The problem must be on your end.Delete the app and download it again.
I just tried the app from the comfort of my living room and it told me whether an item was FSA eligible or not and told me if there were any deals on that item. CVS bandages.

Delete the app and download it again.

Been there done that. My girlfriend with different phone has same issue.
What’s FSA?
My app does not show items. It scans barcode in store.
