What always inspired me about Dolly was her humanity. Her work with children on education and literacy through her Imagination Library. Her embrace of all people of every walk of life free from judgement and her famous quote "Find out who you are. And do it on purpose."
Also refreshing was her sense of humor and her ability to turn criticism into humor. When asked if she was offended when the famous first cloning of a sheep from a sheep's mammary gland and named after Dolly, her response was "there is no such thing as baaaaaad publicity!" Or when asked about Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly's "I Will Always Love You," Dolly's response was "she can have all the credit, I'll just take the cash!" (Dolly earned over 10 million on royalites) Or when she entered a Drag Show Dolly Parton Look A Like contest at a gay bar in Hollywood and lost. Or when Barbara Walters during an interview with Dolly, and Walters called her a "hillbilly," Dolly told Walters that she would have kicked her in the shins if Walters had called her a hillbilly when growing up.
My all-time favorite was her on David Letterman once doing the top 10 list "Dolly's Pet Peeves" Number 1 was a hoot.
We all lost one beautiful special girl. And thanks for sharing the video HOTPE!
