The vacancy is District THREE (3) in Hilo, not any of 'Puna's districts' (4, 5, or 6).
Not sure that it is long vacant.

The Police Commission's vacancy covers:
South Hilo (Waiakea Homesteads, Waiakea-Uka), and Puna (Keaau, Kurtistown, Mountain View, Orchidland Estates, Tiki Gardens)

Also the following member's term expires on 12/31/2008:
Puna (Hawaiian Paradise Park, Ainaloa, Hawaiian Beaches, Pahoa Village, Nanawale, Leilani Estates, Kapoho, Kalapana)

I do know that Puna has at least on applicant for the Puna position on the police commission. That is good.
