I just did a story on the 12 Trees Project and Ken Love for Edible Hawaiian Islands. They top almost EVERY kind of fruit tree and train them to grow laterally, this gives easy pickings and no "hang over" the fence problems. The fig trees there bear year round and provide hundreds of pounds of figs.
I cannot imagine any neighbor not sharing an abundant avo crop! They fruit and ripen all together and have a short shelf life. My neighbors share everything they have growing. Just ask them and you will probably end up with more fruit than you can imagine!
Carey sets out boxes of free fruit on her driveway and I have seen lots of boxes along the side of the road with a little "donation jar" next to them. In Captain Cook the other day I even saw a cooler full of leis with a donation box.
