rbakker - sorry you're going through this. I can confirm that Verizon mobile broadband works where I am (HPP, Kaloli Point) but have no idea if it works elsewhere. I went through the Verizon store near Walmart and made sure that they would refund everything if the service didn't work. The contract I have says exactly this and my money would be returned if I had no service (30 day trial as KeaauRich mentions). Since the service worked and I had no reason to return the equipment, I can't tell you if they would have broken the agreement, but I suspect not since it's in black and white.
Unfortunately it seems you went through another company and think that's where the problem is. I hope you get your money back.

TomK, if it hadn't worked I'm pretty certain you would've been out $35. Verizon told me that themselves. And charging for airtime is standard practice as well, even if you can't connect.
Check the contract (if you're really bored), does it mention an activation fee or them returning it?
I tried to go to Verizon directly but Google Maps sent me to the wrong location (I also tried calling but they never answered). Then I saw the big Verizon logo in the mall and thought that was it.
This reminds me why I hated Verizon and switched to Cingular. I had some really tiresome conversations with those people. The one time I got an awesome CSR I praised her to the moon for not being a talking robot like the others.
When you talk about days of service, they are going to mean calendar days that you were signed up whether or not you made calls. Just as I pay for my cable TV by the month and it gets pro-rated by the day if I disconnect. Whether I watched anything on my TV or was even in the same state with my TV is immaterial. I had the service ...
However, if their system goes down they do refund you the days they were down if you call and ask. In this case, though, the tower/system wasn't down.
I would have thought that Verizon kiosk was an outlet of Verizon. It says Verizon ... not "dealer who peddles for Verizon."

I'll see if I can get a definitive answer from my colleagues at Verizon Wireless corporate.

For 7 years I've had only positive experience with Verizon and I was in the situations where I asked for a supervisor.
About that kiosk - they are a dealer,"peddling" Verizon products
and looks like not a good business.

StillHope, i respect your experience with them as one reality.
However, I used to post on another forum where it was nicknamed Verizonsucks by a number of disgruntled customers, and I have had my bad times. I am no huge fan of AT&T but I can say that in three years with them, I've never had to ask for a supervisor. Actually I've never had to call them other than when I set up service. Maybe they're terrible! But I've had no reason to call.

It's funny, but I heard only bad stuff about Cingular.
Anyway,I hope you don't have to call them and dispute anything.
But if you do,
please,keep us posted

Sorry to drag up an old topic but still no refund of my $400 deposit from Verizon. Every day I call I get a different story from their highly-trained customer service people but basically they're now telling me that a check sent in the mail can take up to 6 weeks to get to Hawaii (it's been 4 weeks so far). Move over snail mail, they're using turtle mail.
I could fill a whole page with their half-truths and stupidity but just please consider heeding my advice - avoid Verizon!
