Trash Dumping: call police or...?
#11
No, I didn't know that about Officer Obie. I knew he was a real person.
When I first got the A.R. album, I went to my senior government teacher and proposed that he play this current and relevant record album in class. He said yes without a prior listen. At the time (early 1968), no one else in the class had heard it yet. That was fun. [Smile]

Arlo sang it when I saw him play here at what's now the Sheraton, in '97. He said he couldn't believe he'd been getting paid to sing "the same dumb song" for thirty years. I think he did the coincidental missing minutes of the Nixon tapes variation at that concert, although I'm not 100% if I heard that there or on a recorded concert.

Da Vinci, email me if you are serious ... it wouldn't happen immediately but yes I would be up for it.

Thanks for the perspective, all.

A lazy worker dumping the trash in the forest unbeknownst to the person who sent him or her to the dump is a possibility which did not occur to me. How ironic it would be if I summon the police, they actually come out to investigate, and upon delving into the offending litter pile the Puna gendarmes discover it came from our own place! Seems unlikely from the types of garbage which I see showing through the plastic, but if so then the irony would be enormous.

I'll call the non-emergency number, make a report, and we'll see what comes of it.

Those are fun and interesting tidbits of cultural lore which folks have shared regarding Arlo Guthrie, Officer Obie, Norman Rockwell, and so on. I know Thanksgiving is the usual annual occasion on which to play Alice's Restaurant but my family has a tradition of playing the immortal tune when we all get together for a summer campout (which for the last eight years or so has been in the Black Rock Desert). I, too, would be interested in a local reading group for Finnigan's Wake if one is forming up; it is a lapse in my education that I have never read James Joyce's classic. As long as the group meets some other time than Monday evenings--which is when the Puna Mens Chorus practices every week--my participation is a possibility. I'd say "Please PM me" but Punaweb's internal message system never seems to work for my account, so please reach me via AlaskaSteven@yahoo.com instead.

By the way, just to mention for the general good of the order, there is an online tool which makes figuring out the best time for a diverse group of people to meet into a quick and easy process. A board of directors I am on has members scattered from Boston to Pahoa and this tool makes scheduling the dates and times of our teleconferences a snap. Go to Doodle at
http://www.doodle.com/
and check it out via the highlighted "View Example" text at screen center. The next link (if it works correctly) will take you to "Free Functions" in one jump. Otherwise, the Free Functions can be found by clicking the mainpage Help tab, then Learn More.
http://www.doodle.com/about/basicFeatures.html
This is so useful for figuring out which day of the week and time of day the maximum number of potential participants can gather online or in person for either a one-time meeting or recurring event like a Finnigan's Wake reading circle.

I found someones trash in our front yard not long ago, including the can. Looked like someone was taking the can and it fell out of the vehicle.

Long story short there was a large plastic gray envelope like prescriptions come in with a neighbors name and address on it!
