No, I didn't know that about Officer Obie. I knew he was a real person.
When I first got the A.R. album, I went to my senior government teacher and proposed that he play this current and relevant record album in class. He said yes without a prior listen. At the time (early 1968), no one else in the class had heard it yet. That was fun. []
Arlo sang it when I saw him play here at what's now the Sheraton, in '97. He said he couldn't believe he'd been getting paid to sing "the same dumb song" for thirty years. I think he did the coincidental missing minutes of the Nixon tapes variation at that concert, although I'm not 100% if I heard that there or on a recorded concert.
