Are any of you in the Tsunami Zone in HPP, and if you are, do you have some form of flood insurance? Is that what it is called? Flood insurance? If so, would you please share with me what such insurance would cost?

We too look forward to learning the answers to your post Glen since we are also looking at properties in the tsunami zone in HPP. Thanks for asking.

I don't believe that FEMA's designates it as a flood zone, but I haven't specifically checked. You can still get FEMA flood insurance if you wish. On a house that I checked with FEMA for insurance recently, it was something like $500 a year.

I own a house on the point, about 100 yards from the water. The ocean is about 20 feet below the cliffs in HPP, and I wonder how large a wave needs to be to travel the hundred yards and still reach a house on post and pier?
I have home owners insurance, tsunami insurance, hurricane insurance and earthquake insurance. Here is the link to the PDF file with maps of HPP tsunami zones. Everyone should look over all the info at the civil defense web site. http://www.hawaii-county.com/cd/tsunami/Map3.pdf Book em Dano...

Great question Glen and thanks to everyone for tuning in here and giving us the goods! LOL
So I copied and pasted the emergency kit lists into a document, and put the sites into my favs too. When we were on island in early December we stayed in a lovely place in Beaches on Puhi St. It was great and we were instructed to proceed Mauka two blocks to be above the inundation area should we hear alarms in the middle of the night! Good to be informed and aware so you can make better judgements in an emergency. mella l
