All this about a former mayor or soon to be mayor, what has our current mayor been saying or doing about this escalating situation. Understandably he has been very busy with watching and waiting to see what the lava will do next. This new well was going to be drilled by geo, day and night no matter what, with no regard to our laws or its surrounding neighbors.
Our community is going through great changes due to the impact of this dagger lava flow. Our kids have been displaced, some businesses have closed, friends and family have moved. We have seen property values drop and stall in this leilani neighborhood, and been confined to our homes at times due to bad air. Yet geothermal(Ormat) feels completely o.k with Drilling a new well for the next 3-6 months.
Did our community have any say to this drilling, was their even a community meeting? Not a geothermal meeting, not a lava update meeting, a community meeting to discuss the possible ramifications, laws, possibilities. If we have all had to decide on staying or moving due to this flow, it may have been nice to know about this type of drilling taking place during this already volatile and changing county.
Why does it feel like geothermal does not consider its residential neighbors when making these types of decisions, especially under this circumstance of the lava impact, or staying on line during hurricanes, or dumping planned waste over neighbors to safe the plant? Does our mayor have a say to these types of community affected decisions, or only Jay from helco makes these calls?
