Mobile slaughterhouse for the Big Island
#31
Most of the farmers/ranchers I know that sell their beef have it slaughtered at either Kulana in Hilo or the slaughter house in Pauuilo. But there's usually a waiting list for both of those places so additional USDA approved slaughterhouses would be good. We also need one for smaller livestock such as chickens and rabbits. Then a lot more folks can grow their own and put their backyards into production. Rabbits take up very little room, can be fed almost all forage (up to 40% mulberry leaves per the folks who wrote the "Rabbit Production" manual), don't make any noise and taste good, too. Unfortunately as far as the dinner table is concerned, they are really cute and fuzzy and it's hard to turn them into dinner.
