There sure is, Noel. I actually got this link from another thread earlier this year...it's great.

The State positions are very particular and require a lot more footwork than jobs in other areas (e.g., retail, commerical). It's a long process and several interviews, testing, etc.

I've been scanning the classifieds lately just to get a check on the island's economy. There are very few employment ads for this time of year and not very many of them seem to be for anything that would pay enough to support a household. Lots of the "group home monitor" sort of job, service jobs, a few drivers, servers and lawn maintenance sorts but not much in the career field. A lot of the jobs are part time so that doesn't help either.

I suspect when they say Hawaii has such a low unemployment rate they are going by the amount of folks who are filing for unemployment. I'm guessing when folks lose their jobs a fair percentage of them go to the mainland or somewhere else to look for work so even though the unemployment numbers are not very high that doesn't mean it isn't out there.
