This will allow scientist to work on other types of Taro.
Unfortunately, this is not what the Farmers want. It is very difficult to tell the different types of Taro apart and once you open the pandoras box to testing on any types of Kalo then, you really open it up to ALL of the types of Kalo.

(Not happy about the recent developments.... INCLUDING TSUJI's lack of courtesy to the neighbor islanders that went on the 19th only to be told only to summarize their testimony into 3 minutes when the PRO GMO's brought in from the mainland were allowed all the time in the world to speak.... Many people had to make the decision to give testimony or miss their flights!!! Some missed their flights and still were not allowed to testify) [V]

THEY DID IT [Sad!]

The state House Agriculture Committee this morning passed a bill that would impose a five-year moratorium on experiments with genetically modified Hawaiian taro but would allow continued testing of Chinese varietals....

The bill now goes to the full House for a vote and, if it passes, the bill would go back to the Senate for a possible conference committee.
Several taro farmers said today they would continue to argue for a 10-year moratorium and believe that allowing testing on Chinese taro could potentially contaminate Hawaiian taro....

....Monsanto Hawai'i praised the committee's compromise....
