I tried a few free seismograph / seismometer / vibration sensor apps both for Android and iPhone. There are too many of them for me to try them all and find the great ones.
Some of them have "alarm" features that alert you if there is any movement so like if a "big one" is coming you'll be alerted before you can even feel it.
They are impressively sensitive. They even display tiny events like the miniscule vibration of me setting a pen down on a desk.
Some of them record data, others do not.
If you have an older phone without an accelerometer, they probably don't work very well, but my cheap $49 android phone does great.
If somebody has the time to try them out and report if they find a great one, that would be appreciated.
