If 5th District County Councilman Matthew Kanealii-Kleinfelder had of had a public meeting back when he could have, what would you have ask him? Here's my list:
Has the prankster who carpet-bombed Highway 130 between Pahoa High School and Leilani Estates been apprehended? Why weren't those craters filled in before it was repaved?
Has it been proven that the Carbon Nation Tribe didn't use zip ties to kidnap and eat local children during their brief stay on the a Big Island?
When will an engineer-approved plan to establish emergency escape routes for Lower Puna be submitted to the Windward Planning Commission?
What can we do to keep the air tour helicopters from coming back?
How many more coconuts should environmentalists plant on the littoral berm makai of the Kaimu awa bar? Why has the public access to that beach been blocked off? And did the DLNR approve the structures now on that State Conservation land?
Why did the County Civil Defense turn off the Kalapana radio signal amplifier that so very many people depended on, especially during the frequent emergencies this area faces?
Why have drivers head-banged both ends of practically every guardrail on the Pahoa Bypass Road? Would it be safer if that road was squiggly? And since the electronic sign displaying drivers' speed on that road is broken, can we go as fast as we want on that stretch?
What ever happened to the State's plan to move our library off the Pahoa High School campus? And why did the students there use such filthy language when on recess? Are they allowed to talk that way at home?
Assuming the rainbow painted across the road at the south entrance to Pahoa denotes a "No Gay Zone," is it to keep them in or out? Who enforces this rule? And will this fading symbol of civic pride be repainted soon?
Why isn't there a sidewalk between the Post Office and downtown Pahoa?
Who would ever consider putting a Hele-On Bus hub on the tiny lot a shout away from Pahoa Elementary School?
Can the full opening of the Puna Kai Shopping Center make the north entrance to Pahoa any creakier?
Why would a rational white guy oppose advancing human knowledge through astronomy?
Why is the Kalapana Dump only open one day a week? And what does Harry Kim have against recycling, anyway?
Isaac Hale Beach Park may be under Ashley's jurisdiction, but you have to drive through the fifth district to get there, so I'm throwing it in.
Why are the Pohoiki surfers locked out of their home break until nine o'clock in the morning?
Can anyone think of a feasible ocean rescue that the Pohoiki lifeguards could execute that wouldn't be faster, easier, safer and infinitely cheaper by paddling out on a longboard than by deploying a jetski?
Given the continuing regional subsidence caused by the weight of the recent lava flow, how many more months will it be before the Luka Hale Trust house gets washed off its foundation? Will the State and/or County be liable for damages?
And finally, why isn't there a public walkway to the black sand beach at Kehena, where there is nearly year-round easy access into the ocean?
Cowabunga, Dudes!
