Good info here. I'm such a dummy. Reboot of phone and it's working again.

The cell phone companies had to give up the frequencies that were used for 2G and 3G because the FCC redeployed them for other uses. The new plain Jane 5G use the old analog TV frequencies and that's why we had to buy digital TV's.

That's "Extended Range" 5G, marketing name varies by carrier. There's also "sub-6"-5G (below 6GHz, eg, recycled 2GHz spectrum and repurposed C-band), mm-wave 5G (above 6GHz) and private 5G. There's also a proposal that allows 5G to use existing wifi spectrum but it's hard to find much information about it.

AT&T, I noticed a definite decrease in my up/down speeds on the LTE modem. I will check again this weekend.
