Pahoa has the highest concentration of historic buildings in all of Hawaii, with some of them dating back to 1900. … there's plenty of boutiques and galleries, along with a boardwalk to entertain you.

If you're not happy with the value proposition that is living in Hawaii, feel free to shop around.
You would be amazed what $1800/month gets you in some places.
