Looking for a Body Shop
#11
I found the receipts!

I will also vouch for MS Auto Body, however, my vouching comes from 2001!

Back in 2001, my mother-in-law passed away suddenly and one of her possessions was a 2001 Ford Escort ZX2. (Not the best, but not a bad car really) She bought it 6 months before she died and had driven it only 780 miles in Sun City, AZ.

The car was fully loaded and was a sharp looking little car. At the same time, my nephew was attending the University of Hawaii - both here in Hilo and some days in Kona and needed a dependable car to go back and forth with.

So, we arranged to have it shipped from Sun City to Hilo, along with some other possessions/furniture she had. Matson delivered a 20' container to her house in Sun City and arranged to have the car loaded into the container with a flatbed tow truck. (they would not deliver the container "on the ground" due to it being shipped with a car in it - so it was left like a semi-trailer on wheels) They also then supplied a steel rack that went inside the container that allowed you to pack stuff on top of the rack and use the container more efficiently along with the car in it.

When the container arrived, we arranged to have it towed to the U-Store place in Shipman that has a loading dock/ramp that would allow us to unload all the other stuff and then drive the car off the container.

Well, needless to say, that steel rack had a weld break and during transit a piece of broken off steel banged the entire roof of that car into Swiss cheese! Ironically, the car had a sunroof and fortunately it never touched the glass!

We immediately drove the car off the container (after reporting it to Matson and taking pictures) and drove it to Orchid Isle Ford, who promptly told us - only MS Auto Body can fix this car!

Took it to MS (they were at this time on Hwy 11 - near the new Toyota dealer) and they had the car for almost 2 months. They had to cut off the entire roof and with this type of car/design, the rear window had to be broken out and replaced as well.

Anyways, when we went to get the car, we were absolutely unable to tell that anything occurred. Paint matched perfectly; it was 100% just perfect. And stayed that way for 7 more years before we sold it to some other college kids!

Any idea what prompted this behavior? Also, where was your car body damaged.   Must have been a real big one  to do this and walk away OK. Hard to believe a pig would get the better of an encounter with a car.
It was a big one! Came charging from a yard and body slammed my driver's door. Front license plate flew into the bush. Door and front fender totaled. Pig was on the ground but slowly got up, shook, and took off. A guy that stopped to help was just as amazed as I was. I was driving a Chevy SSR pickup. It was on 22nd, not 26th, about 6:30am on the way to work.

Thank you all for the replies.
It is good to see real info rather than just Yelp reviews.
NW Motors Inc  77 Silva St Hilo, HI 96720      (808) 796-3323
was totally new to me and I have been Duck Duck Go and Google searching this out for days.
Once found, I am amazed I had not seen this one before.  It does have Yelp reviews     3.9 out of 5.0   Reviewed by 26 people.  Reading the reviews, it is much better than 3.9 seems although even 3.9 is very good compared to most of them. The real majority were saying how good these people were and really only one person giving  a '1' brought the score lower.
On the other hand RE  MS Body  aka  MS Auto INC.  30 Kukila St  Hilo, HI    Phone: 808 961 6330
I think it is more telling to see two punaweb replies giving good reviews to them as opposed to Yelp.
They have 30 Yelp reviews which without PunaWeb input made their   2.7 consistent feedback looked like a real avoid.
I don't know the eventual time frame here because the real handling is family but not me.  I have been passing everything on I can wanting to get going instead of people (and the car) sitting still.
I really hope for a good outcome. I'll give feedback here on the outcome.
