The people I admire most are those that reflect loving kindness in their lives and who never take more than they give. It's really wonderful to have so many different voices on the forum. At some point I began to understand that the people on this forum are not a perfect representation of Puna. As some have pointed out, I don't even live here (there!) --at least not physically.

But this is a big world and when we wink out either virtually or in reality, the world just goes on without us ---but it's a different world. If you have a voice, and you are here now, and there is something to say (or if you have something to ask), and if you can say or ask it without intentionally causing damage to someone else, may also well stick around.

We are building a community here and we need all voices....

And therefore. I've changed my mind and will maintain as mei..

1) It’s Rob’s forum so he sets the rules and parameters
2) Rob wants to keep the focus local
3) Personal attacks are not allowed
4) If you want to talk about non-local issues, you are free to start your own forum or hook up with likeminded folks privately

This might be an oversimplification but most forum members (I think) would agree that this is the gist.

An analogy might help. Let’s say I’m having a Hawaiian music party (analogous to hosting my own forum). I extend an invitation to everyone in the neighborhood to come listen to and play Hawaiian music. (=Create a public forum where people can post about local issues) We’re all having a great time listening to beautiful Hawaiian music (=discussing aforementioned local issues). Then someone grabs the microphone and starts ranting about geopolitics or worse, starts playing loud acid rock.

I might patiently sit through part of the rant/performance, but eventually I’d usher the person off the stage and request that they keep the focus on the Hawaiian music because, well, it’s my party and I don’t want to talk about geopolitics or listen to acid rock. (This would be analogous to Rob gently warning people that they’re out of line.)

Now, what if that person ignored me and kept grabbing the microphone and pushing his or her agenda on everyone else or insulting people at my party? If I ran out of patience I’d request the person to leave the party immediately; at best I’d never invite him/her back.

In this context would any thinking person have the audacity to say, “It’s a free country, I have a right to freedom of speech!” If they did, my reply would be, “Yes you do and you are welcome to host your own geopolitics/acid rock party. (=Start your own forum). And I wouldn’t be offended at all if they didn’t invite me.

The folks who don’t like Rob’s rules/guidelines seem reluctant to “host their own party”. Why?

No need.
