Thanks for the tip, sistersue. I might have two I can top. I didn't do a tree last year, so I have decent recovery on the tree I topped before. The sparseness of one Norfolk Pine is great for silhouetting ornaments, but I'd like more fullness.
I could not use an areca. I have too many glass ornaments. [:0]
The silver sprayed ohia with red accents does sound pretty.

Hi all,
I find the Norfolk to be perfect to highlight many of the delicate antique ornaments and hand-crafted things I've gotten over the years. I don't bother with the big balls, lights or tinsel. We have a 6' section of re-growth that will work perfectly, though I do have to find the perfect place for it in our small house. I find that the Norfolks last the season really really well -- just fill a bucket with cinder, water every week or so lightly and drape the tree skirt around it. I didn't do a tree the last two years, so I'm eager to see my old family ornaments again -- some from the depression era collected by my mother. They are precious to me. I'll also select out a bunch to send home with our son who hopes to be visiting in early December. He's got his own house now, and needs to get a tree!

We do small and local. Send small checks drawn on the local credit union. So far, no one has ever returned one.

I like this thread very much. It's so fun to send things from Hawai'i, and moreso - Puna. We have so many talented and skilled vendors here.
We send honey from Marvin at Maku'u Market, and things that Abbie makes from her all natural hemp fabric. Steve is always a hit for us at Maku'u - he's the gentleman that sells all the amazing glass figurines. Although the figurines are not from here, Steve IS and so we support him and his lovely family in that way.
I adore Shawn and Charlyn at Puna Style and we go there for last minute birthday gifts and cards and to talk story. Her prices are so great and the variety of fun things is endless.
LOVE, LOVE this thread! Way to go LOCAL, Rob![:X]
