Do you people understand that the Punatics of old prevented highways that are built to federal standards !

I believe "they" still are -- it's called "keeping the country country".

If enough people wanted a 4 lane freeway built from Hilo to Maku'u it could be funded very easily !

If enough people wanted to pay for roads, they'd probably start with the "private" roads in their subdivision.

might get extended to 7pm. ... It seems such a simple thing to do, so am wondering why it's taking so long to do this.

As with so many things, we must beg State for permission; because we are in the minority, and away from Oahu where they cannot see, our requests are "taken under consideration".

The people who merge early are the ones causing the problem.

Help teach those less-fortunate: stay in the merging lane until the very end ... but match speeds with the merger lane, so nobody gets "the advantage".

So basically you wont be late to work but who cares how late you come home!

Exactly. Because all "commercial activity" must be "in Hilo". Creating a non-Hilo-centric economy would help with the traffic issues -- it's all spelled out in the PCDP that has spawned so many committees and "working groups" which are busily writing the same old reports that reach the same old conclusions. If only we could pave our roads with the paperwork these generate!
