Iʻm concerned that more road improvements will steer folks from Beaches onto Makuu
When they widened, graded, and applied a surface of gravel during the lava flow, traffic increased enough to be noticeable as a bike rider, but didn’t have much affect on total Maku’u Drive traffic. If they paved it, I’m sure there would be an appreciable increase, but that’s if paved. Ha ha ha.

leilanidude - The maps, being old, don't take into account the 40-100+ feet of elevation change the good old Fissure 8 threw out.
Well that requires funding for USGS, which you and your political ilk aren't into, so you'll just have to take the newer DEM data and pull yourself up by your bootstraps and make your own Steepest Descent map (yes it's doable, if you bother to learn a little ArcGIS like any capable and self-determined sovereign individual)
I can't see *everyone* in Beaches and Shores using the newly-widened and improved Gov't Rd to get north to HPP and beyond, but it would definitely be useful to anyone in the lower parts of those neighborhoods needing to get to certain parts of HPP...say, to the vet's office on 28th and Kaloli?
Logically, no one would drive 6 miles makai off the bypass at Longs in Pahoa, down Kahakai Blvd to Puna Pkwy, to get on Gov't Rd to head north 5 miles up to HPP to then head mauka all the way up Maku'u, Paradise, Kaloli, over to Shower, just to get back on 130.
Now, I'm speaking from personal experience...I tried to go north to the vet in HPP via Gov't Rd a week or so ago semi-emergently, and an AssPlunge (Asplundh) tree truck had the one-lane road completely blocked about 3 miles up from Beaches; no signage at the Gov't Rd entrance, no cones, no nothing...and they had no intention of yielding to oncoming traffic. I had to turn around and go all the way back to Beaches, up Kahakai, yadayadayada...to say I was absolutely infuriated would be an understatement...my language was colorful. I was needing to get to the vet...and doing it pretty much ASAP would have been nice.
Isolated incident, yes, but in general, to have access to HPP, whether upper or lower, from lower HB/HS and/or Gov't Beach Rd on a nice, wide, smooth, (relatively) safe from ginormous wide lifted flying trucks, or huge hidden boulders placed by Lum, could indeed be very useful and welcome in certain circumstances.
Same with opening Railroad into Nanawale again.
So many alternate routes being unused...why? The need for access is huge....and growing.

Government workers can also say FU and your expectations they provide you with new maps. Cuts to funding comes with cuts to services - guess that gets more people out of the way of your "progress" on the death spiral of public services.

Your whole "you cannot spend your way to wealth", "throwing more money at education in Hawaii, is not the answer", "people with government jobs don't want progress", etc... political shtick is is what I am pointing out.
Now you want the same people whose education you don't support, whose funding has been cut, and who you think are in the way of progress to make you some new maps - pay up or GTFO. Maybe stop eating the crayons and you can learn to make your own pretty pictures.
