Stolen vehicles, firearms, ammunition, drugs
#1
Two people were apprehended in Fern Forest and charged with the theft of multiple vehicles, multiple firearms, plenty of ammo, and drugs. In addition, for the perfect Puna Royal Flush one had a probation violation.

His bail was set at $510,000 in addition to the revocation warrant. Tavares was being held at the Hilo cellblock pending his initial court appearance in South Hilo District Court scheduled for Monday, Jan. 7.

Half a million+ for bail seems surprisingly reasonable.

The bail will be reduced because we don't have enough jail space.

Now that the guns are gone, they are relatively safe.Everyone needs to lock up their guns and cars and doors.

There is no jail space. Because ' Not in My Back Yard' crowd won't allow it. His bail will be reduced and he will be back on the street before you can top of your cars gas tank.

It's really hard for me to care anymore. Didn't hurt me or mine.. amirite.

"After asking Tavares a series of financial questions, such as if he had a job, a bank account, a car, cash, stocks or bonds, or if he owns his own house and receiving negative replies to all queries, Hawk reduced Tavares’ bail to $92,000."

“In light of the fact that you do not have any assets, I am required by law to reduce bail in this matter,” Hawk said.

Thanks for the update Obie.
I did a quick Google search for Tavares - - there are multiple updates from the police department since January 2018 - - a year ago, reminding the public Tavares had:

A no-bail warrant of arrest has been issued for violating the terms of his probation.

Since that time he has been supporting himself by stealing cars, firearms, ammunition, etc. But because he doesn't have a job or a car legally in his name he gets his bail reduced? At least it appears he had the courtesy to only rob houses when people weren't at home, based on the lack of reports for armed break-ins over the last year. Gun owners should note this, and lock up their weapons whenever they pull out of their driveway.

Maybe if he did have a job, and a car (legal) he wouldn't resort to thieving? Of course, after looking over his resume, who would hire him?
