Agreed. I only bought the Samlex because it had a solid reputation. Apparently moving production to mainland China did them in. From what I've read online their Taiwan built products were almost as good as when they were made in N. America.

So did I learn from my mistakes and buy a quality replacement? Nope! I'm trying my luck on a 3000 watt Renogy PSW inverter. I've had pretty good luck with Renogy products in the past. If my luck doesn't hold out, hopefully the extended warranty will.

In case anybody is wondering how the Renogy 3000 watt PSW (6000 peak) inverter has been working for me:

The first unit I got was defective. (OF COURSE!?!?)

However the replacement unit I got from Amazon has exceeded expectations. It's cool, quiet, puts out good power, and unlike any other inverter I've EVER owned, it powers our catchment pump without any complaints. I can even draw ~500 watts on other loads and when the pump cycles on the inverter acts like nothing ever happened. The fans don't even kick on.

Winner? Too early to tell. But for $369 for a 3000 watt PSW inverter that powers the whole house plus a deep well pump without complaints... wow!

(I have a 4000/8000 watt major brand inverter that laughs at me if I try to run the pump)

ETA: they are out of stock but this is what I bought:

Here is a 3,000 watt pure sine wave Renogy inverter on sale at Home Depot (free shipping to Hawaii) for $332 and it claims to come with the cables.

It is also described as an "inverter charger" but this is clearly the inverter only model. The inverter/charger model is closer to $800.

This is an outstanding price on this inverter.

MY Samlex 2000 watter has been a champ. Lighting got it a 1 yr and 1/2 into it's life and I sent it in for warranty repair. Couldn't wait a month so I bought another and now have a back up. I run our whole place on it. 2 mini fridges, chest freezer, sat. TV and internet and lights and fans. No Worries.

12v systems are for fun. Move to 24Vs at least as you won't get 3000 watts outta your bank before the inverter trips on low voltage.
