Lauhala mat in Puna

Aloha. We are finally approaching the finish line of our home in HPP and had a question about lauhala mat. We would love to cover the vaulted ceiling of our living and dining space w/ lauhala. But I am worried of mold.

Does anyone have lauhala mat installed in their homes? On walls or ceilings? any issues?

Our setting: The upper portion of the front gable wall will be permanently open and screened. The back gable wall will have an attic wall mount exhaust fan. So there will be regular airflow going through the home (in addition to tradewinds).

Other consideration: I have inquired with a couple companies about mold and fire treatment. Will see if this is available.

I covered a vaulted ceiling with bamboo mats. Before installing I applied a clear sealer on both sides and have had no problems. Applying the sealer was a bit time consuming with drying and flipping time but worth it as far as I'm concerned.
