I just read that Robbie Robertson, co-founder of The Band, legendary rocker, and film composer passed away today (8/9/23) at age 80, long illness. I want to repost a link from a previous Punaweb thread which featured a YouTube video of him playing with Ringo Starr, musicians from around the world and the USA, including our very own Taimane, John Cruz, and Hutch Hutchinson. It's a fairly recent recording, from the last couple of years I believe. Excellent.
We need some joy after the recent sad fire news. This lifts me up every time I watch it. Thank you to the original poster here, way back when. Enjoy:

When I see these types of world wide collaborations, especially musical, it makes me say “Isn’t the HUMAN RACE just beautiful?”
Thanks for sharing Kiana!

Some interesting tidbits of the video Kiana posted.
The video was produced by Robbie's son, Sebastian along with Mark Johnson, who was the co-founder of "Music for Change" which is what I guess you could call the record company/platform who has brought together, as Kiana says, musicians from around the world and the USA.
Maui's own John Cruz is one of the featured artists in numerous collaborations made by Music for Change.
Quoted from the article linked below:
""Interviewer: How was your dad’s (Robbie Roberston) reaction to all of it? From recording his own bit to watching it and listening to the final?
(Sebastian) Robertson: He obviously came on board very early because we needed to get his guitar, and we wanted to get him filmed at the beginning of the process. He was kind of like, “I don’t know what the hell you guys are doing, but it seems cool.” And then by the time the end result came, he was like, “Oh my God.” Also, the response that his friends and colleagues had to it… I think they had the similar response to what you had, which is A, how the hell did you do this? And, B, this is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
Interviewer: It really is amazing. One of my favorite parts of the video is the very end, when your dad’s done playing, looks up and has that huge smile on his face.
(Sebastian) Robertson: Yeah. It’s a pulling-at-the-heart-strings moment for me, because that was really a perfect picture of the feeling that I had when it all came together.""

For our friends and families in Maui, as well as the upcoming annual International Day of the Disappeared on August 30, 2023, I'd like to offer U2's song "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" performed by Music For Change and featuring Hawaii's own Michael & Olivia Ruff (Kauai) as well as another resounding performance from Maui's own John Cruz.
