Damn man, just pissing in my bowl of Cheerios aren't ya? Smile

Odd that we had 100% different experiences with Samlex. Used one of their chargers daily for 8 (late 90's-early 00's), and have a 500W inverter in the Jeep used almost daily for the last few years as well.

Well I still got time to figure things out. What would you suggest for a 12v inverter and a charger (or combo) for under $800 from your experience?

I don't have a charger recommendation. When I rarely need one I use an automotive charger.

I'm using the 3,000 watt version of the inverter below. They also make inverter/chargers but they are expensive.

I have read that the 3,000 watt version has a problem with false ground fault errors, and the first one I had did just that so I returned it to Amazon. The replacement has been fine. That was a few years ago, so check the reviews for more recent experiences. Apparently the 2,000 watt and smaller didn't have that issue. There isn't much difference in price between the 2000 and 3000 watt models. The inverter runs cool, fans almost never turn on. The Samlex model I had the fan ran if the inverter was on, whether it was providing output or not.

It says 3,000 watt but it's 1,000 watts x 3 outlets. You can get 3,000 watts out of the hardwire connection which is what I do. I have a DIY 20 amp outlet wired to it. My well pump could never start on 1,000 watts.

when the oven is being used an electric "glow bar" has to be used to ensure the gas is always ignited

There is one Hotpoint model with battery spark ignition for both stovetop and oven. Home Depot used to be able to order them.

4 of the 6v golf cart batteries from Costco

These will last about 3 years if you don't maintain them; 2 x L16HC will perform better for about the same price. Myself, I got tired of the maintenance on wet batteries, the extra for AGM was worth it. Mattos (used to?) have L16 AGM.

It's perfectly fine to buy cheap equipment and burn it out as a learning experience, but if you have other things to do with your life, a nicer system is totally worth it.

Ultimate Off Grid next to Paradise Plants has everything you need. I think he’s selling Hyundai panels these days. Kawika is an OK guy despite being a Trumper and frequently watching Info Wars in the office. And wearing no mask, of course.

Who was the guy who ran the store next to J. Hara's before Jeremy? I never got his name but he was a young local guy. What I remember most is that he was advertising some DC fridges based on how many kW they used per day not how many kWh per day. When I questioned this he smugly said he knew his stuff and that I should do my homework before I questioned him.
