Logo Contest Kicks off 50th Anniversary Celebration for Waimea Arts Council!
All creative Hawaii residents, age 16 and up, are eligible to enter the free logo contest. The winner receives $200.00 plus one year $70.00 artist level membership, and can merchandise artwork in the Firehouse Gallery. The new logo will be showcased on all promotional materials, social media and website. Online submissions are due September 23rd. Being the oldest nonprofit of its kind in North Hawaii, the council was formed in 1974. In 1980, they transformed the old firehouse and firemen’s bunkhouse, located in the Waimea Historic Corner Park at the junction of Hawaii Belt Road 19 and Hwy. 190, into the Firehouse Gallery.
In 1984, the gallery hosted the first annual Na’opio islandwide youth art exhibit. Since 1990, WAC has served the annual Waimea Cherry Blossom Festival by creating the program, posters, art exhibit and reception. This year, Hawaii County Mayor Roth presented WAC the Laulima Proclamation for recognition as one of “many hands working together” to strengthen the community and bring diverse people together.
Waimea Arts Council’s vision is to create WAC... Wonder, Access and Community, through arts education for youth and adults, community involvement with individuals of all backgrounds, enhanced membership, and to solicit funding and partnerships to move this successful Big Island 50-year-old nonprofit into the future.
