I wondered.. isn't there some provision in the SNAP application process for residency? So I looked at the State's DHS website..

And immediately it says..

You must be a resident of the State of Hawai'i to be eligible for money and/or SNAP benefits

in red, just like that. Right away. So, I wonder, does a used plane ticket to Hilo qualify as proof of residency?

The following happened about 10 years ago:

My best friend had a mainland friend's daughter fly here to visit for a month. Within days of her arrival from Oregon, the friend's daughter had applied for and been approved to receive SNAP. My friend and I were surprised that the daughter was eligible, since she was visiting, not moving here.

I read about getting benefits, and proving residency is required - - the only exception is if an applicant claims they’re homeless.  It’s probably hard for the state to prove an applicant isn’t homeless.
