Frozen Ahi Poke'from Vietnam

Right?

"Mercury can be very harmful to the brain and even small amounts can damage a brain that is just starting to form or grow. That’s why young children as well as unborn and breast-fed babies are at the most risk. Too much mercury may affect a child’s behavior and lead to learning problems later in life. No one knows what the “safe” level of mercury is."

"...if in Hawaii, eat Hawaii tuna!"

Does anybody in Puna wonder why and how you can buy frozen tuna in Puna that was caught, processed, frozen and shipped from Vietnam to Puna at 50 cents on the dollar to tuna caught in Puna less than 50 miles from a local Puna store, most likely caught by a local Puna Hawaiian a few days ago?

What happened to the consistent drum beat of "buy (Puna) local?"

Some, yes, but most of the ahi sold here is from the long-line fleet and it is more than a few days old. There is also a fairly popular roadside vendor that claims "locally caught" that is actually buying ahi wholesale that came from the long-line fleet. Did you ever wonder how that vendor always has so much ahi?

How about some fresh, sustainably harvested local pua'a? The fawkers are getting out of hand.

I was thinking more on the lines of Suisan, and yes, even so, roadside tuna, even if caught by long line fleets in and around Hawaii has got to be much better than some god knows what tuna caught, processed, frozen and shipped from Vietnam. But I suppose at 50 cents on the dollar to locally sourced tuna - makes it a "good deal." Possibly even better yet, 7/11 gas station sushi??

We could get some enterprising young local boys to round them all up, do all the processing and work and then unload it all into some foreign country at 25% below that country's going market rate. Got start thinking "outside" that box!

Hawaii 7/11’s are owned by 7i in Japan unlike mainland 7/11’s. The food in our stores includes some of the fresh higher quality items like they sell in Japan.

True and the musubi section is actually made in Honolulu during the night and flown over around 4am to Hilo and trucked straight to the stores. Every morning around 6am a Pahoa 7-11 worker is stocking the rack with those fresh musubis.

I saw "Suisan" on the 7-11 sushi rolls, back when I was willing to stop at the Kurtistown 76.
