Been to Kaua'i Lately?

It was mentioned on another thread, but I was so surprised that there were so many people in support of the Albezia trees that line the highways on Oahu. They really made it clear that they only wanted the trees or parts of trees cut that could possibly fall and cause harm...but did not want them just felled completely. I know they are dangerous, but I have say I love the look of them...that huge canopy is pretty.

Mitzi, the National Tropical Botanical Garden is on Kaua'i. This is where Kerin Lilleeng-Rosenberger worked for a while. I don't know if it's a place that visitors can just drop in, but you may be able to use your credentials to gain entrance. Also, the Alakai Swamp has some great hikes (some on boardwalks) with neat native plants and is the best place to see native forest birds. It may be a little early for the Trematolobelia to be in bloom. Maybe plan to stay in the cabins at Kokee State Park for an early start (not sure what kind of lead reservation time is needed).

Kilauea Lighthouse is a great spot to visit. They may still have some Brighamia insignis outplantings there. There should still be lots of birds to see there.
