Feed them and they will come! If you feed them at the same place and same time every day they will be there waiting for you and they will mutter amongst themselves if you are late with the snacks. Chickens are great fun, they make the yard more interesting and they lay eggs! Pretty good pets!
So far nobody has seemed interested in the more esoteric breeds like Welsummers, Marans, Phoenix, Silkies, etc. I would have thought someone would like some of the other strange breeds. Rhode Island Reds and White Leghorns are the best for eggs, though, so perhaps that's why folks seem to prefer them?
