Keaau Christmas Parade
#1
Both the Pahoa and Keaau parades will be held on Saturday, December 8. The Keaau Parade starts at 5:30 - but those wanting to see it should get to town starting at 4:30. There will be live entertainment in the town center at 4:30. Earlier in the day there will be entertainment at both the Farmer's Market and at the Keaau Shopping Center. There will be a fair with food booths, etc starting around noon.

The Parade is an evening lighted parade that is becoming a favorite drawing entrants and crowds from around the island. The Grand Marshal this year will the Lt. Governor Duke Aiona.

Those wishing to participate in the parade can ask for a packet of information and application at: KeaauChristmasParade@hotmail.com.

This is a great event.

The Pahoa Parade is earlier in the day - making it a really special day in Puna

Both the Hilo and Keaau parades are big events. Lots to see and do. Pahoa's Christmas Parade is always fun too. I got some great photos last year and our Puna Santa is always a blast.

P.S. to Rob: get me info on it so I can advertise or otherwise help sponsor the Pahoa Parade, and if you need us to make copies of the forms for the MPCA, we'd be glad to do that.

I've done both these parades a couple times, and been invited back so watch for the local band the sweetarts, they'll be playing on our float. Andour neighbor watch will be involved, lots of fun both of them. Rain or shine.

Wax,

Could you advise on the best locations for viewing the parade, the parade route and potential parking?

The Keaau parade route starts at the Keaau HS, goes down Old Pahoa-Keaau Rd. to Old Vocano Rd. (the Reviewing stand is normally on this corner, makai of McD's) then turns down Old Volcano to Shipman Gym side of Keaau Intermediate.
There is parking at the schools, the market & the shopping center. Hopefully next year we can have the PW party on parade day (Hint to hubby...git 'er done!), as we are only a couple blocks off the route.
Adding: Any parking that is along Old Keaau-Pahoa (Keaau Elem & Inter) You will be parked from before the parade until after, as the parade route is closed to traffic (remebered that some wanted to get out of our Subdivision, and it is pretty much closed, as the it the entry streets are on the route & also where some trucks de-light...) Keeau Loop is not as hard to get in & out, but the parade trucks have the right of way...so it may take a while Smile

Rob,

Parking advice is the usual for such - get there as early as you can. By around 5PM the village is likely to be rather full. You can park on streets in Keaau Loop and others in the village. You can also try Shipman park although there is another activity there. Also try to upper part of the village (Volcano end of Old Volcano road) by Puna Congregational Christian Church.

The village center gets pretty full but is probably the best place to see the parade as the contestants often stop to entertain the judges there. Alternate would be the newly mowed and cleaned up section on the Mauka side of Keaau-Pahoa Road KHS side of Verna's.

The parade is quite different from the other East Side parades in part simply because it is a lighted parade. Lots of excitement!

NO RAIN! The parade was great, but we missed the Helco trucks (usually the most lit up) as they were more than likely very busy cleaning up the mess from the last week. Mella & Noel joined us for dinner & the parade, then a mad dash to see Badi Assad at the UHH Arts Center. All & all a great evening! Peter, great truck, float with nice lights, & love the wood piecework 8,& great big dogs (coulda saddled them up)!
