A chainfall type hoist might be the thing for hauling groceries up and down. They were extensively used in barns and warehouses so it isn't new tech.
If I ever get around to putting a front porch on this house, I've thought about building a hoist, but since the house is on a hillside, just adding in an access door at the back would be an easier answer. If you have any sort of hillside, you may be able to walk around the back and go in at grade level.
