Beginning June 29th, Kalani hosts a two week #256;nuenue Freedom Festival to celebrate Puna’s cultural rainbow and honor the Hawaiian heritage of the 120 acre retreat center. At especially reduced rates, visitors from around Hawai’i and beyond are invited from June 29th to July 11th to savor Kalani’s culinary flavors, re-vitalize with pool/spa wellness offerings, and engage in 50 activities per week -- including yoga, dance, martial arts, drawing, sculpting, watsu, eco-design, hula, lauhala weaving, meditation, volleyball, snorkeling, lava viewing and much more.

Fun community Festival days on July 4th, 5th and 10th welcome public day-use participation. Each presale ticket ($20/adult or $10/child age 12 and under) provides all activities for any day plus a meal. Additional food and beverages will be available for purchase.

“Festival Freedom Day,” Sunday, July 4th, begins with sunrise yoga followed by Kalani’s popular 10:30 a.m. “Sun Dance.” The afternoon features an art/eco trek, wellness samplings, a pool party with two DJs plus live Musasa Marimba Ensemble, and simultaneous sports playoffs. The evening will showcase “ExtrABBAganza” by the Puna Men’s Chorus, plus fireworks. Sunday’s dining theme is Pacific Fusion.

“Ho’olaule’a Holiday,” Monday, July 5th, begins with ceremonies at the preserved halau and heiau sites of Kalani’s traditional village center, followed by an all afternoon family day at the pool, featuring hula halau on the lawn and an evening Tahitian “Te-ao Maohi” performance plus Hawaiian music, crafts and fire-spinning. Monday’s food theme is Hawaiian.

The “Finale Performance,” Saturday, July 10th, 8 p.m., will conclude the two-week Festival by showcasing the faculty and students of intensive performing arts training in dance, drama, hula and music. The 6 p.m. dinner is slated as an ‘Ohana Barbeque.
