I am thinking about moving to this area. Is there anyone out there that lives in this area and can you tell me if you are liking it.

We live in Puna, not Kau (the district with H.O.V.E.), BUT we do have friends at live in H.O.V.E. They have lived in the lower areas (about 700 -1000') for years, and love the remoteness of this area, and their neighborhood, and the coastal views they have. Like all of the giant subdivisions on this island, this one has a lot of differences within the subdivision. There are areas that are fairly residential and others that are very remote. Many lots have sweeping coastal views, without a lot of dense plant growth. Upper elevations are rather cool at night, but most areas heat up during the day (black lava ground + sun).
This area is much drier than most of Puna, and you can have times that you really must be very conservative with water (these are lots that require catchment, & no rain = no water). There are areas that have no electrical poles anywhere near, that would probably be cheaper "off grid". I do know that people that have asthma may have a tougher time, as there is a more constant drift of VOG in H.O.V.E. Southpoint does have a nice web site with a forum http://www.southpointhawaii.com/ Hope this helps. Aloha, Carey

I have a friend who has lived in HOVE for 30 years with his mother and they love it for it's remoteness, wilderness, off grid, quiet, no neighbor, no water, no clean air, no cell service, no shopping, no goats. If this is something that appeals to you, I suggest you find a rental in that area and stay a week or longer and live kama`aina. Of course as Carey points out there are vast differences in the district so be sure to you invest in due diligence before you buy a quick get rich grow koa or coffee scheme. I can put you in touch with our friend if you would like to correspond directly with him.
P.S. I thought ali`i resided up in Kohala?

Lokahi,
Thanks for the response. What is it about the no clean air in that area? AND yes I would be interested in talking with your friend that has lived there many years. Aloha, Miss Ali'i |
