Mayors Radio Interview

Mayors radio interview a couple weeks back…
Does anyone know if there’s a documented list of the improvement plans slated for Puna and if so where the list can be found?

If you are referring to the proposed projects "associated" with the $56 million bond proposal it is still in the works. The current council will be addressing the issue in coming months most likely after more is known about projected revenues.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Ok Thanks Rob... I also heard there was a federal investment in excess of $200 million for fixing up the rural roads in Hawaii. Is there a list of roads scheduled for improvement from that fund?

I am not aware of that fund.

We’ve a neighbor that’s jumping on board that to work the Hamakua coast roadway projects. I’ll check with them and get some more details about it but the word is that Government Beach Road is on the paving list here in Puna as are others.

Yeah, please let me know. I would be surprised if Federal money was available for Beach Rd. They have said in the past they will not fund work in a tsunami zone (at least that is my understanding).

I'll get back to you on it in the next couple days.
As per the Beach Road, what I heard was -
Because of the increased population density, emergency egress is the supposed issue now.

Emergency egress is being addressed by PMAR (Puna Makai Alternate Route). There is a proposal for $500k in county money for planning of PMAR.

Beach Road could be improved by the county without Federal funds but the CoH has no money.

Beach Road could also be improved by private road maintenance corporation(s) if FoPF's Fuel Tax Revenue sharing proposal is successful this year.
Assume the best and ask questions.
