Hawaii Master Food Preserver Certificate Program

The University of Hawai’i at Hilo’s College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) is accepting enrollment in the Master Food Preserver Certificate Program. Classes will be held Feb 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 25, 26 from 1 pm to 7pm every meeting day. Location: Da Kitchen on Haihai Street in Hilo.

Individuals interested in developing their own jams and jellies, canning acid foods, pressure canning low acid foods, pickling and fermenting, drying, freezing, and the art of charcuterie are encouraged to become certified Hawai‘i Master Food Preservers. If you are able to commit to an 8-day, 48-hour training AND volunteer at least 20 hours in a year, you may be qualified to attend.

Co-Instructor Kalen Kalekoma is a certified Master Food Preserver has taught children and adults on Kauai and O’ahu and manages the weekly Waipa Tuesday Farmer’s Market, Poi Day Thursday and coordinates the Waipa Music & Mango and Kalo Festivals. Co-Instructor Luisa Castro is a certified Master Food Preserver and Program Coordinator at CCECS who has worked statewide with farmers and other agricultural professionals on food safety.
