Mark Alan Vocal Works Brings Four-Week Vocal Workshop to Hilo
Hilo, HI October 2, 2016 – Mark Alan Vocal Works, brain child of local voice teacher
Mark Sheffield, introduces its upcoming Vocal Works Workshop. The workshop includes
lecture/discussion of practical aspects of singing, followed by small group breakout
sessions where singers of all experience levels can practice concepts learned. The
workshop runs October 11, 18, 25, and November 1. Workshop times are 7:00-8:30 p.m.
at the Puna Covenant Church on 16-647 Old Volcano Road in Keaau. Cost is $25.00 per
class or $90.00 for all four classes. For more information, call 238-6040 or email
everyonecansing16@gmail.com.
The Vocal Works Workshop presents singing technique from the view that everyone can
sing. Beginning with this statement, each of the four sessions will include lively
interactive discussions and opportunities for singing. Workshop topics focus on how
singing moves from a natural means of vocal expression to a more focused and
intentional craft. Students participating in the workshop will learn fundamentals of vocal
anatomy and vocal sound production. The workshop brings to life foundational concepts
to bring singers from uncertainty to confidence in their singing.
Mark Sheffield, founder of Mark Alan Vocal Works, maintains a busy private voice studio
in Hilo, where he has taught both privately and at UH Hilo for ten years. 2016 saw the
inauguration of his new Vocal Works program, designed to provide both individual
training and theory-based practical education in the vocal arts. This year also saw the
inception of VOICES, a vocal ensemble comprised of Mark's advanced students from
both his Vocal Works and UH Hilo studios.
When asked how he came to create Mark Alan Vocal Works and its four-week
workshops, Mark said, “For a decade now, I have worked with singers in East Hawaii as
they learn the basics of singing technique. It has become my mission to reach out to the
wider community with the message that everyone can sing. The workshop provides, for
even the least certain singers, a warm and supportive small group environment for
learning. Singers are not required to sing by themselves, but are instead invited to join in
with discussions and small group vocal practice. Please join us for this four-week
intensive and fun workshop designed to make you a better singer. Let us show you how!”
