Hidden by the seeds at Walmart are bags of 100 onion starts. They are labeled for sale at $2.49 (which would be an incredible bargain) but only ring up as $1 at the register! They have both yellow and white onions, and also shallots, though they were out of shallots the last time I went and there, and are only 20 shallot starts in the bag instead of 100 like the onions. They also have garlic starts in that area, but I'm not sure what the point of that is.
I know some of you are thinking, "yeah, but I have to go to Wal-Mart, and the largest employer in the world kills babies" (or some other such nonsense). Yes, but it's a MUCH better deal buying 100 onion starts for a dollar than spending $2 to get into the Maku'u market to look at grown onions bought at Wal-mart...
