Flying out of ITO? Get there early
#1
The wait times at ITO over the weekend were 60-80 minutes.

The wife heard about it so I dropped her off today 2.5 hours early.  It took almost exactly 2 hours to get through security.  When she was near the checkpoint the line she was in was twice as long as when she showed up, so one can extrapolate a wait time much longer than 2 hours now.

One of the agents said something about an xray being inoperable.  She said it was just one slow xray and a bunch of TSA agents standing around.

People with TSA pre check didn't have a wait, so maybe worth the money to buy it if you have time.

Also, Hawaiian was delaying some flights so more people could get through the line and make their flights.  Of course that was causing people with tight connections at HNL to potentially miss them.  So if you have a tight connection, you may want to consider booking an earlier flight.

Somebody in line with the TSA App was saying that it was showing no wait time at all.  So don't trust that.

I read that one of the two security lanes was down.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Read this update today 3/13 on Big Island Now site, apparently one TSA screening station is off line:

"Repairs are expected to be made Monday morning 3/13. The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation said it would update security line times and repair status throughout the day on its social media."

I have to fly Oahu this Wednesday so sure hope it's fixed by then. If not, they are recommending arriving 3 hours early. But hey, "they are providing seating in the waiting area and water will be available."
