Opihi Picking

Maybe it’s time the Opihi picking matter become more regulated?

Opihi pickers & maile pickers operate in a cash only economy.  They work for themselves, often because they’re unemployable elsewhere.  They don’t like schedules, they work when they want to, or have to.  I’ve met many of them over the years shipping at air cargo.  If any part of their endeavor is regulated, they’ll figure out a way around it.

How do we know that these opihi pickers were doing it commercially?
