I have two large Albezia trees on the back of my property. Someone had girdled one of the trees before we got here. It is slowly dieing and as it dies it is not falling over but the limbs are dropping off one by one. My neighbor said that it is a common practice to do this as it makes it easier to drop the remaining trunk with out all the large limbs. I guess one must be aware as to what is under the limbs before you do this and stay away from the tree until the limbs are down. I’ve seen several albezias in HPP that are dead with most of the limbs gone as I drive around park. It is kind of weird to see one of those big limbs just snap and drop.

Leilaniguy, I seem to remember something about the fact that if your neighbor does have proof of encroachment & a judgement against the property owner, he can put a lein on the property for the judgement award plus costs. Not an immediate settlement, but the guy can't sell the property without paying up for the damages.
Worth checking into.

On the topic of weed trees... We recently got a call from a homeowner on a lot next to ours in Hawaiian Parks. She called to mention that a tree on our property had fallen across her back yard. Good thing it missed her home!
I inspected the remaining trees on the property and noticed 5 additional trees that were putting her and another neighbor's homes at risk. They were fairly tall and bulky.
A call to the tree guy (Da Puna Pruna), a couple of days of tree felling, and 1200 later, we took care of the offensive trees.
I will head back in there to remove the smaller trees in a few weeks. We're also reviewing other lots to determine if there are other risks to mitigate.
We ALSO noticed on our dozed lots/building sites, the same trees (octupus/umbrella trees) are sprouting all over. The same goes for albezias.
We're now taking proactive steps to kill these weeds before they turn into costly removals.
I recommend keeping these weeds in check while they are still manageable and cheap to control. This also applies to lots that have already been ripped/prepped. It's amazing to see how fast these weeds take off.

Hi Buzz,
It did not include removal of the debris. It did include cutting up the large tree that fell (almost all of it ended up at the neighbor's) into manageable logs and moving the debris over to our lot.
I intend to have the lot dozed sometime in the future so we did not need to have it hauled away or chipped. Despite that, I thought the price was very reasonable.
I also have peace of mind knowing that I've removed the risk to our neighors.
