On-site temporary shelter
#1
I will be living on-site as I build my house. What are some of my options for cheep temporary shelter? I love backpacking so living in a tent is fine with me, but I’ve heard of other folks living in metal sheds, containers, even buses. My hubby says I’m gonna get tired of camping real quick,…I hope not. I pray the romanticism continues throughout the whole building process. I would love to hear how other people “roughed it” while building their homes.

Well, we opted to build a shed (permitted) first as the place to store our 2 dogs, 2 cats, and ourselves. Some might consider it "rough", but we have all the comforts - solar electric, water, hot water, bath, non kitchen and none of the luxuries. It's great being onsite for whole bunch of reasons. Kinda funny come 7AM, I grab the truck keys and the dogs are ready to ride to work. Of course, sometimes they're back up to the shed almost immediately, but they're excited all the same.
Good luck with whatever you choose, and if it doesn't work out, just choose again.

LOL, "just choose again." A permitted shed, huh? Sounds like a great idea.

P.S. I have nine cats that will be moving to Puna w/ me and hubby. We are so excited. Thank you all here at the Punaweb for sharing your building experiences and encouragement. I think we will be tenting it until we can get a more sturdy temporary shelter erected, whatever that will be – haven’t decided yet, that’s why I’m asking what other people chose to reside it temporarily.
