Change in Council District 5 Representation
#1
During this primary campaign I have met, and had inspiring conversations with, people at small talks in their neighborhoods, on their front steps while going door-to-door, at farmers’ markets, and at candidate forums. I’ve had people flag me down in stores and on the sidewalk wanting to talk about my candidacy. Also, of course, I have remained tuned in to online conversations, including participation (the only candidate to do so).

The listening and answering questions during these conversations has been very good in communicating to me what is on people’s minds.

An overwhelming sentiment is the simple imperative that District 5 gets a change in representation on the County Council.

Since first deciding, in June 2009, to be a candidate, I have been confident that I could be successful. Now, with the results less than one week away, based on the conversations I have had, I can say with absolute certainty that I am the candidate able to ensure that change in representation happens.

Furthermore, I can do this and remain independent, because I am the only candidate for Hawaii County Council District 5 who has never accepted any private campaign contributions.

Your independent candidacy is refreshing. I don't vote in your district but hope the best for you this election. Kenoi gang needs an overhaul, starting with Naole and Enriques. Vote out the bums!

James, you have won my vote even though I don’t agree with 100% of your policy points. (I never agree with anyone 100%, and you and I can talk intelligently and respectfully about our differences, which is more than I can say for Emily.) I really appreciate the way you have campaigned in an honorable and cogent fashion. I only hope that there are enough thoughtful and informed voters for you to win. For anyone who is undecided, please note: This man is smart, and he listens to people, even those who may disagree with him.

Thanks silverpenny.
Please keep the positive thoughts coming and, if you can, please share your sentiment with anyone you know who does vote in District 5. I have had some District 5 voters tell me that I've been recommended to them by other people including folks from other districts. Pass the word, it works.

Thanks to you, too, Jerry.
I value your perspective and look forward to benefiting from it even more as I sit on the Council.
