This is an appeal to help with Keiki school supplies. Neighborhood Place has run this program and at this moment a final batch of school supplied have been ordered and N.P. is short $1,700.00 in paying for it.
Perhaps this is something Punaweb can help with. The original request letter is below in Blue. Small amounts matter. Every little bit helps. This is a very worthwhile local program.

Aloha mai kua,
For most of us, a few pens, pencils, and composition books have little meaning but for almost 1700 children in East Hawaii it makes a big difference. Since 2004, Neighborhood Place of Puna in collaboration with community police officers, community associations, service clubs, government agencies, churches, non profits, businesses and individuals have worked together to purchase and distribute basic school supplies to our Hawai‘i Island children. This “Ready to Learn” effort has been made possible through the generous donations of community leaders like you!
Last July, 1683 children lined up with their parents or tutus to receive school supplies. Over one hundred volunteers helped with the drive – sorting supplies, loading and unloading supplies, registering families, helping put supplies into the children’s shopping bags, etc. Families came from all over the Island - some as far as Kailua-Kona. Each child received pencils, paper, crayons, scissors, composition books, glue, binders, portfolios, colored markers and colored pencils.
The Ready to Learn School Supply Project is a simple project with a big goal - to provide Hawaii's needy children with basic school supplies to give them a "jump start" at learning. It is an effort to build self-confidence in children and help them reach for their dreams. No child should have to go to school without the basic supplies that would make their educational experience worthwhile and enjoyable. It is our hope that every child can start school "Ready to Learn".
The Ready to Learn school supply committee estimates that 1800 children will participate in 2011. At a cost of only $10.00 per child, the committee’s goal is to raise $18,000. A financial contribution in any amount will help the committee provide all of our keiki a chance to be prepared and “Ready to Learn” as they enter the 2011 -2012 school year.
We humbly ask that your tax-deductible donation be made payable and mailed to the Neighborhood Place of Puna. For more information about Ready to Learn, please visit Neighborhood Place of Puna’s website at www.neighborhoodplaceofpuna.org.
For those of you who have given in the past, our sincerest mahalo. Your gift made this project possible!
Sincerely,
Mary Hyslop
