The stars are not as far away as we have been led to believe. Yes, thousands of light years is a long way, but it is not insurmountable and mathematics is still a young field. We are still working with a primitive and outmoded concept of zero. It gave us newtonian mechanics, the standard model and relativity theory, but not a warp drive. That is changing. I say again, TMT and its sister in the southern hemisphere are critical to creating the navigational capabilities necessary to the human endeavor to avoid extinction as a species by colonizing earth-like worlds near other stars. Dither all you want, that is the TMT issue in black and white. Maybe someone's political issue is bigger than that, but that is their opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but no one is entitled to their own facts and all the facts are nowhere near being articulated on this.

beejee, in hopes it would work, perhaps a good suggestion. However, this was a totally political decision (which wasn't made because of TMT, as I understand it; was going to eventually happen anyway) to placate the opposition.
Nevertheless, we are bound by poor decisions made by several entities (ie. UH, BLNR/DLNR/etc., all under the State of Hawai'i jurisdiction).
People like Mr. Tom are far and few between. Although we have our differences (all of us), the mission remains the same: For the good of all. Mahalo to our Mr. Tom, and those who work diligently for our future, and our knowledge.
Waiting patiently for the Supreme Court decision.
JMO.

Yeah right, sure give it a try! Considering that the petition to kill the TMT got over 50,000 signatures verses the 7,200 signatures to keep it I suspect that wouldn't get much traction.

Thanks for your words opihikao, I always appreciate what you say. I don't think the politicians have a clue, and they just picked a fight that very well may blow up in their face.  That's my hope anyway.

So, we are left with litigation. WE (all of us) pay for the potential/imminent litigation. TMT has every right to file against this State of Hawai'i, and the entities under that title. HEWA LOA!
