Although I didn't grow up here, playgrounds were a big part of my childhood. I had three or four all within easy walking distance and they were a great place to socialize with other kids my age and have a lot of fun and learn stuff as well (swings and roundabouts are great for starting to understand the physical sciences!). Only problem I had is I would spend too much time there, get back home late and get spanked...

It was a different era.

Many hours spent at playgrounds during my childhood too Tom. Lots of fond memories. That's why this is such a positive thing for HPP. It'll also be a place keikis can meet other keikis.

Judy Houle has a way of getting things done as many can attest in HPP AND w/a smile on her face. She's a selfless no drama person. No agendas other than of service to others. HPP's benefited in so many ways and is lucky to have her.

Judy's playground report at the board meeting: She got some cement picnic tables donated and had to arrange pickup in Waimea and the offer was to take as many as they wanted. No easy task esp being cement. She asked for help at the board meeting. I don't know if the HPP road crew assisted, I hope so. The board told her to keep track of her gas mileage so she could be reimbursed. She said employees had requested a table for the whse and one for the ofc. The tables for the playground had to be painted before the grand opening. The board gave the remaining monies budgeted for the playground to put towards the grand opening.

In an earlier post on this thread, I said Judy had gotten a volunteers award on Oahu for all the educational and assistance work she's been doing in HPP w/the albizia and fire ant problems. This is her report at the board meeting: The albizia/fire ant workshop is on the 3rd Sat every month. They train members in the use of milestone. She said if members need assistance on their property, they can get on a list. Next workshop is on May 21st at the HPP library. Judy said 40 people attended the last workshop.

Judy's Emergency Action Committee report: There are 20 EAC volunteers. They have 2 nurse volunteers so far and could use more skilled nurses. The disaster preparedness involves locating downed trees and putting them on a map. They have locations of special needs members and their circumstances, first aid stns, charging stns, and a plan in place to distribute water, ice and food. I believe the radio operators on this committee do practice runs once a month in different parks of the park. Kaloli Pt's NW is part of the radio team and is looking for more volunteers. The EAC's going to offer the GM a radio. There is a disaster exercise coming up on June 17th @ 1 PM. They're always looking for more volunteers to assist w/emergency relief.

HPP Membership meeting this Sunday at 3 PM at the Activity Ctr. Your support is needed to ensure the Finance Committee is formed (the Association's checks and balances) w/out another sabotage like the one that happened at the June membership mtg by the previous board. The question is why did this happen then and why was there an attempt at last year's June membership mtg? If there's nothing to hide.....why? There are reps, current and past, who are still trying to thwart the membership from forming this committee. Your support is needed. Mahalo~

As you can see by the agenda, there will be a lot of info given out by the Pres = transparency. Something we haven't seen for 3 solid yrs now.

I'm surprised to see Obie's PMAR committee giving another presentation. I thought Ruderman, O'Hara and San Buenaventura said the committee gave 20 minutes of outdated and misleading information. Good it's near the end of the meeting this time. My cue to exit.

Don't forget, this district already has a Hawaii Star Visitor Sanctuary right down the road in Kalapana. If we have a landing pad for alien starships and their passengers to disembark, we can certainly dream of a PMAR for those of us who already live here.
