Introduce yourself
Hi everyone, my name is Marilyn and my husband is Dave. I, too, have been a lurker for a long time, and have learned a LOT from reading the postings here. Thanks so much to all of you. We own a lot in HPP but we live and work in northern California for now (possibly close to Mella???). We hope to build one day and be part-timers. Until then........

I am Ron, age 60 and retired, currently living in north San Diego County. My wife and I visited the BI three years ago and I set my sights on moving there, mostly to the Hilo side. Since my wife had several concerns, including the Puna area in general, I eventually backed off and began considering other options.

So, I'm hoping to update myself on Punaweb to see what others are saying and to reconsider whether the BI is a fit for us or not.

Welcome Ron! I am from San Diego, and moved here about two years ago. Hubby has continued to live in Temecula and teach in Moreno Valley but joins me in less than two weeks for good. Yay...

If there are any questions I can answer, I am happy to share what we have learned. We live in upper Puna and have NO regrets. Aloha , Pam pslamont@yahoo.com

Aloha, Pam,

I appreciate your positive feedback and your San Diego perspective. I sent an email to your yahoo address. Looking forward to hearing more about your experience. Your husband being a teacher means no Hawaii State income tax on his pension, right? That's a big plus. I'm a Calpers retiree too, which is one big reason to consider the BI. Thanks again.

I'll be brief. I'm Mike, mid-sixties, bachelor, retired from a federal government scientific agency, tropical plant lover. Worked in Florida, bought land in SW Florida, considered Puerto Rico and Hawaii. I now have 8.33 acres near Kurtisstown, will develop my botanical garden there.

Well well welcome to lurkers, Punatic wanabees, bachelors and maidens.

Aloha Macdive, Marilyn, and DiveDave hope to meet up with you one day in HPP. Currently we are in Chico waylayed by a kittie issue, but still hoping to be there soon.

To the Diegoites, Ron and wife, see aren't you glad you posted already a new virtual friend of the Lamont Ranch, and also X Diego-ites! Small world no?

And last but not least to Mike Merritt the land Barron of Kurtistown? Hey Mike when we get there I'm a weed puller extraordinaire from No. Cal so if you need some help! Will work for knowledge of tropical botanical garden propagation. LOL

I'm not the real welcome wagon but just playing at for fun, you can do it also if you like. But I'm sure I speak for all when I say a grand welcome to you all and may your plans and dreams work out for your future in Hawaii. Aloha, Mella

Hi Mike and welcome to the Punaweb!
I love to play with the tropical plantings here in Tx. Was working for a time at our botanical gardens propagating tropicals with a scientist from China. Dr. Moi. He has done some extroidinary work with many of them, with amazing results.
I hope to have a nice garden there someday in the future also.
Once I even shipped some cuttings to a professor in Kurtistown. Guess they don't have enough there in Hawaii, so they import some of it!
S Florida is nice and tropical. I love it when we visit friends in Naples.n They keep asking us to move there, but it is not Hawaii! You have made a good choice.
Aloha,
Lucy

Aloha all. I am David and my wife Kimberly, along with our three young boys, recently made the move to the Keaau/Pahoa area. We purchased a home in HPP and are very excited to be part of your community. My sister and her family have lived on the island for over 20 years and have convinced us to make the move from Las Vegas, Nevada (where an extraordinary number of Hawaiians have moved to, ironically). I grew up in Las Vegas and witnessed it grow from a town of 200,000 residents to 1.8 million over the past 30 years. Now, my kids will get to grow up on a 1 acre backyard (much like my parents had when I was a kid) instead of the postage stamp size yard we currently have. We look forward to meeting you and have enjoyed reading these forums over the past several months.
