I've already noticed a lot of people discussing the TMT again in person and online. Feel free to remind them that all of the protesters wild claims have been debunked by Hawaiian cultural and scientific experts. They can read it for themselves:

They can read it for themselves:

Rather generous of you to assume that they know how to read and/or can be bothered to do so. Facts are hard, outrage is cheap.

I just hope it does not get out of hand and those opposed can peacefully protest off of the road and not on it. I too have been turned off by the harassment of those trying to “protect” the mauna during my visits to Mauna Kea. I hope that I can again enjoy the Mauna again with my Ohana.

A Civil Beat reporter spent the day on Mauna Kea, she estimated 200 people gathered. Many brought provisions and plan on staying overnight.

She’s talking about kapu aloha, a phrase that refers to disciplined behavior that members of the kia’i have for years urged their supporters to follow. The idea is to treat everyone with kindness, with no cussing or anger, even as they protest. It’s a noble cause but it’s also shrewd — the activists don’t want to give the state or county a reason to crack down on them.

A message from Doug Simons who is one of the main spokespeople for the current observatories:

https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/201...-maunakea/

"As a community, we are bigger than that which separates us in the face of adversity. We all owe it to our keiki, who will define our future, to lay a strong foundation. Let the first pohaku in that foundation be one in which we all commit to the safety of each other at all times."

If the state/county was smart, they would simply not have the construction equipment show up today as had been announced. Wait a few days while saying nothing, then have them show up with zero notice. Giving notice of the exact date/time was completely stupid.
