This is a picture of law enforcement controlling access to the Mauna Kea access road.

rainyjim - Ever wonder how protestors drive brand new cars, yeah me too.

They manage to drive new cars the same as any other - pedals for stopping and going, the wheel for steering. Pretty simple really.

To address the insinuation, the group up there includes students & educators still on summer break, individuals who own their own business, workers with time off or flexible shifts, the self-employed, retired, those on assistance, and homemakers (note the number of keiki in tow). Or in other words, the same mix of occupations as anyone's neighbors anywhere.

What sort of bubble do you live in to really not know or recognize anyone involved?

I suspect most people don't care about new cars. What many want to know is why the police aren't controlling traffic on the Saddle Road or the summit access road and leaving it to civilians to control traffic. Law enforcement just sits by and lets them do it and if you believe the governor, a bunch of them are taking drugs but LE won't take action other then telling them it isn't really on, so please don't do it. And they are directing traffic on a major highway but nothing is being done about it.

I really find it hard to believe what I am witnessing, but it is real. Fair play to the protestors, they've caught the state and county napping, but the latter really must have known what was going to happen. It's 2014/15 all over again but in a much more public place and the state and Ige have no excuse not to have been prepared.

I wonder if this Dorian guy believes in the rule of law when someone tries to take his stuff.

I also wonder what the heck Bernie was thinking. I hope no other candidates follow suit.
I’m starting to think Hawaii is a lost cause.

I see a lot of upside down Hawaiian Kingdom flags. This is not about the TMT.

Imagine if all the "south will rise again" folks took over a state highway down in Alabama, refusing to let certain people pass, and the police just let them do it, for days...

With the large numbers expected over the weekend, this along with the parking situation, could end up being the impetus for Saddle being closed and some police action taken for the good of "public safety".

Note this is the same playbook as used in Leilani during the lava flow - Mayor was all supportive of people staying in their homes if possible until guns start getting waved around and then it is parking enforcements and mandatory evacuations in the name of public safety.

What’s with this cars thing? New cars, lifted cars, folks post derogatory ‘those people with cars’ statements as if to suggest their opinion of your car matters. What a bunch of silliness. And they want us to take them seriously? To have respect for their opinion? As to facts.. look in any picture.. the folks on the mountain have all sorts of cars, just like the rest of us. So what?
