Vaccinated People Spread The Delta Variant, CDC Says
(08-12-2021, 03:07 AM)randomq Wrote: AaronM, 2020 wants its mask ignorance back. Masks lower in filtration than N95 may not protect the wearer as much, but they reduce the spread of virus-laden droplets to others. Nothing is perfect, but there is plenty of research to confirm this.

& some idiotic folks think that wearing a vented respirator is OK, & cannot understand why their vented N95s are not allowed many stores & business....
They are vented & offer absolutely no filtration for the products & workers in the business!!
I don't call it "misinformation", I call it deliberate lies.  I don't know what they get out of it except for the attention from some people who don't know any better.  I know first hand that masks do work and so does the vaccine - at least for me.  But I guess some people don't want to hear about my experiences because the ridiculous made-up stories are more entertaining. Who knew the Golden Rule would be such a difficult concept for people to understand.

SisterSue, what happened?

I laugh out loud when the governor of Kauai calls some people "knuckleheads". There are so many that don't seem to have any common sense!
In case it helps others, here's my mask and vaccine experience:

I've been sick with both covids.  In Feb. 2020, three members of my family became terribly sick and had to have steroid shots in the ER so they could breathe.  Then they were put on Z-pack antibiotics.  We didn't know what covid was at the time, but the doctors knew exactly what to do. They recovered, but it took them 8 weeks of suffering and missing work.  I also caught it, but I was very lucky compared to them.  I had a sore throat for 30 days and  exhaustion for a little longer.
After that, I wore a mask whenever I was around them because my great-grandkids always seemed to have a runny nose from playing with all their cousins, and I couldn't stand the thought of getting sick again so soon.

I didn't wear a mask indoors just one time - at a family birthday party - and came home with a stomach flu!  That's how I KNOW from personal experience that masks work.  The one time I didn't wear one, I caught something.

5 months ago I got vaccinated and haven't worn a mask around my family since.  Then, on July 4th, a family member came back from the mainland with the delta variant.  He became severely sick, also his little girl was very sick.  His 54 year old mother had to have steroid shots to breathe (again).  She says she's going to get the covid vaccine even though she's afraid because she's allergic to flu shots.  She said she can't go through covid again.

I caught it from them and was very lucky again.  This time I had moderate exhaustion and joint inflammation for about 2 weeks, and that's all.  I also had the vaccine shielding me by about 90%!   Heart
Aloha.
Wow, masks sure sound great. Even after covid, let's wear them forever!
Maybe just when there's a pandemic killing millions, smart guy.

Thanks for sharing that Sue. Glad you made it through!

What a straw man. Who here has suggested wearing them forever?

Yeah, I keep thinking, where's PaulW when we really need him?

Why would you care? You joined Punaweb well after PaulW's last post.

let's wear them forever!

You may have seen photos or videos of people in Japan wearing masks, not just since COVID, but for decades.  The people wearing masks are not protecting themselves from germs, the people wearing them have a cold, or are getting over the common flu and wear their mask should they cough or sneeze as a courtesy to those around them.  It’s cultural, taught since childhood to be considerate of others.  Even young children understand the reason.

Some adults in this country struggle with the concept.  Even on a temporary basis.
"1167" new infections today. Better take those trips soon before they lock us down again!

Read this article. The person who spread Covid to others was probably in the Starbucks for a very period of time. Same for the customers who caught it from her. But, the mask wearing employees were there for however long thier shifts were. None of the mask wearing employees got Covid.

Some observations from the last few days.

My wife was a patient at HMC in Feb-Mar. When I would visit there was a line to get in. The visitor parking was always nearly full.
Last couple of days she was there for a follow up surgery. You need a vaccine card to get in now. No lines and parking lot is nearly empty.

Covid testing at the Civic yesterday, the wait was 4 hours to get a test. They also offered the vaccine but most people were there for test and were complaining loudly on social media.

Has lunch at Cronie's. You could roller skate in there because there are so few tables.
